Would you like to be able to talk about your difficulties in a calm and confidential space?

Jenny Horman - counsellor and psychotherapist

Welcome.

I am a fully qualified and experienced psychotherapist and counsellor, and I run my private practice from a comfortable and safe room in my home in Crowthorne, Berkshire.  I have an MSc in Humanistic Psychotherapy as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counselling from The Metanoia Institute in Ealing.  I also hold a certificate in couples therapy.

I offer a calm, safe and trusting environment where together we can explore your difficulties. I am warm and compassionate but I can also be appropriately challenging when needed.

I believe that therapy can give you the space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and emotions, which will help you understand yourself better.  It can help you to recover emotionally and psychologically from any past issues or traumas and can give you the clarity to make positive changes in your life.   Together we will work to help you find the way to a happier, peaceful, and more fulfilling present and future.

As a humanistic integrative therapist, I use different ways of working with you depending on your needs.  My focus is always on our therapeutic relationship, as I believe this is most important in order to achieve growth and change without embarrassment or shame.

From my previous role as a rape and sexual abuse counsellor, I have considerable experience in working with clients who may have experienced trauma either in childhood or as an adult.  I understand the coping mechanisms that many people adopt after traumatic events, that may have helped protect them at the time.

These can include alcohol abuse, eating disorders, self-harm, poor sleeping patterns, intimacy issues, feelings of shame, flashbacks and dissociation.  â€‹Together we will work to explore how and why these coping mechanisms supported you at one time, and how you can now learn to replace them with healthier coping strategies.

I am passionate about my work, and as a registered member of the BACP and UKCP, you can feel safe in knowing that I offer a confidential and professional service.

I am happy to offer an initial free short telephone conversation if needed so that we can establish whether we will be able to work comfortably together.

In our first session, I will explain how I like to work and will invite you to tell me a little about what brings you to therapy. Please don't worry about having to talk about anything you are not comfortable with. You can begin wherever you like and feel confident that I will bear your safety in mind at all times to ensure you are not overwhelmed.

You are welcome to ask me any questions or share any worries you may have about my work and counselling in general.

As I believe in the importance of a good therapeutic relationship, this initial session will allow us to see if we are both happy to work together.  After this first meeting, we will then book a regular time for our sessions where we will meet either face-to-face or online.

I offer both short and long-term therapy and we will discuss which may suit you best.  I will regularly offer the opportunity for us review the counselling process, to check in and see how you feel counselling is working for you. This gives us both the opportunity to feedback on how we will the process is progressing and discuss any changes that may helpful.

I receive fortnightly ongoing professional, clinical supervision.  This is to assure you that I am an ethical practitioner and to assist me in providing you with the best practice and positive client outcome.

There is no obligation for you to continue to work with me after this initial session, or at any other point.  It is more important for you to find the right therapist for you, and if you don’t quite click with me, that’s fine too and I may be able to steer you towards a different way of moving forward.

This first session will take place face to-face, and will be the same fee as other sessions. I hope by the end of the first session you will know whether you are comfortable to work with me, however I will always suggest you go home to think about it for a couple of days before making your final decision.

Free on street parking is available outside and there is also a toilet available next door to my counselling room.

First Session
Individual Therapy Sessions

Therapy sessions are normally held at the same time every week.

Generally, short-term therapy of six to twelve weeks is appropriate if you are looking to improve a particular area or explore an issue in your life.

Long-term therapy of up to a year or more may be more helpful if you are stuck and want to explore what is going on on a deeper level.

Individual face-to-face sessions take place in a comfortable ground floor room in my home.
